Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is carried out to ensure that electrical appliances are safe to use and do not present a risk of electric shock or fire.

In the UK, PAT testing is guided by the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, alongside key legislation such as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, which require that electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition.

PAT testing involves a combination of visual inspections and electrical tests to identify damage, wear, or faults that could make equipment unsafe. This includes checking plugs, cables, and internal components, as well as verifying that protective measures like earthing are effective.

We carry out comprehensive PAT testing services to help businesses remain compliant and safe, including:

  • Inspection & Testing – Systematic checks of all portable electrical equipment in line with current guidance.

  • Labelling & Certification – Clear pass/fail labels and detailed records for compliance and audit purposes.

  • Remedial Works – Repairing or replacing faulty equipment and advising on best practice to reduce future risks.

Regular PAT testing not only supports legal compliance but also helps prevent accidents, protect staff, and maintain a safe working environment.
